The Oreck Corporation is a family-owned American business
founded in 1963 by David Oreck. It began by manufacturing
upright vacuum cleaners for the U.S. hotel industry and now
sells vacuums used in hotels and homes throughout North and
South America, as well as Europe and Asia.
David Oreck started the company with the idea to design a
lightweight yet powerful vacuum that hotel housekeepers would
prefer over the heavy models available to them. The idea proved
so successful that now over 50,000 hotels throughout the world
use Oreck vacuums. After a short time, hotel staff wanted to buy
the vacuum cleaners for their own use at home, which gave the
Oreck Corporation the idea to sell its unique products to
consumers.
Oreck has a reputation for making the finest vacuums available.
Its continued goal is to provide lightweight and easy-to-use
cleaning products for every room in the house, each with
exceptional durability.
Oreck has experienced double-digit growth for the past several
years and is now a major manufacturer in the cleaning industry.
The company’s principal manufacturing facilities are based in
Cookeville, TN.
About David Oreck
David
Oreck was born near Duluth, Minnesota. As a young man, he
started his career at RCA, where he helped introduce and market
several new products to the American public — including the
washing machine, the microwave oven, and black-and-white and
color televisions. Then, in 1963, he left to form Oreck
Corporation. As David Oreck has said, he had “a good idea, a lot
of energy, and no money”, but he was an entrepreneur with a
belief in Winston Churchill's maxim, “Never, never, never give
up.”
David Oreck has had a lifelong interest in aviation; at the age
of 17 he joined the United States Army Air Forces and flew
bombing missions over Japan during World War II. Today, while
his vacuum empire grows, he continues to be active in aviation,
maintaining and flying his personal collection of vintage
aircraft.
